Cincinnati Juneteenth Festival (Website)
Juneteenth Cincinnati, Inc.
6242 Orchard Lane,
Cincinnati, OH 45213
Cincinnati's 30th annual Juneteenth Festival will be held on June 17-18,2017 in Eden Park, Cincinnati, OH. Admission is FREE.
Cincinnati's Juneteenth tradition began in 1988 as a neighborhood festival--attracting some 1500 participants to a neighborhood park. As it's grown, the annual Festival has continued to reflect its origins in a racially integrated community, with both multi-racial organization and attendance.
In 1993, the Festival moved to Eden Park at the invitation of the Park board. Festival features have included such diverse family-centered (and free!) activities as traditional storytelling, magic acts, games, races, sweet potato pie bake-off, Health pavilion, hands for freedom quilt, music (blues, African drumming & dancing, gospel, jazz, reggae, etc.), and education pavilion. Festival vendors offer a wide variety of food, clothing, art, folk crafts, ethnic literature, etc.
The Saturday Festival will present entertainment on two stages, beginning at noon on June 17. The day will end with the internationally renowned R&B group, The Deele.
Until 2005, the Festival was only on Saturday. We then added Sunday as a revival of June Festival Concerts, which began in the early 1930,s when Black performers were not welcome in other music venues.
Sunday afternoon is now Father’s Day Concert featuring a wide variety of inspirational music and dance. This year we are delighted to have the Grammy Award winning Charles Fold Singers.
Check our website for more details--and plan to join Cincinnati's freedom celebrants in Eden Park on June 17-18.
Admission is free.
Fees for vendors are very reasonable.
